Exhibition of the Class of 2024
From June 3 until July 6, the thesis exhibition of the class of 2024 of the Pallas University of Applied Sciences is open in the Pallas Gallery (Riia 11, Tartu).
The large-scale exhibition across the three floors of the gallery summarizes the previous four academic years of the 2024 graduates and represents Pallas’ three focus areas (design, conservation/restoration and arts) in seven curricula: photography, painting and restoration, media and advertisement design, furniture design and restoration, leather design and restoration, sculpture, and textile.
The works represent various themes from the students’ personal introspection and development of the creative journey during studies to reflecting socially important topics through the prism of art and practical design solutions. There are altogether 61 graduates’ thesis works exhibited at the gallery.

"Paljajalu metsas" / "Barefoot in the forest"
"Kui keegi kunagi küsib, kes sa oled, vasta: olen mets, sest see peab alati paika. Inimene on metsa moodi, ta pöörab end metsa poole nagu päevalill päikese poole. Mets mõtleb. Mets on paljususe kõige käegakatsutavam kuju. Seda võib tunda ka talla all. Paljajalu metsas, siin pole vaja massaaži eest maksta. Metsaalune on soonetasuja. Mets hingab kogu aeg. Ta kutsub koos hingama. Võib hingata õhku, võib hingata lõhnu, võib hingata sääski, võib hingata nähtamatuid."
- Hasso Krull "Tänapäeva askees" 2020
"If someone ever asks who you are, answer: I am the forest, for that is always true. A person is like a forest; they turn towards the forest like a sunflower towards the sun. The forest thinks.
The forest is the most tangible form of multiplicity. It can be felt beneath the sole of your foot. Barefoot in the forest, there is no need to pay for a massage here. The forest floor is a massage therapist. The forest breathes all the time. It invites you to breathe together. You can breathe the air, breathe the scents, breathe the mosquitoes, breathe the invisible."
- Hasso Krull “Contemporary asceticism” 2020
Through an exploration of personal identity, influences, and future aspirations, these emerging artists share their narratives via miniature embroideries. The exhibition features a diverse range of textile art, highlighting each artist's unique story and innovative approaches.
These works originated from the experimental embroidery course, guided by the expertise of Zane Shumeiko. Galerii Pallas, Tartu, Estonia 29.11.2023 – 06.01.2024.

AJANKOHTAISTA – TASTE FOR WASTE
Kuinka ylijäämämateriaalia voisi hyödyntää vastuullisessa tekstiilisuunnittelussa ja, mikä tekee jostakin vaatteesta erityisen? Miksi korjaamme tai emme korjaa vaatteitamme?
Kuinka ylijäämämateriaalia voisi hyödyntää vastuullisessa tekstiilisuunnittelussa ja, mikä tekee jostakin vaatteesta erityisen? Miksi korjaamme tai emme korjaa vaatteitamme?
Metropolian 1. vuoden tekstiilisuunnittelun opiskelijat pohtivat ajankohtaisia kysymyksiä ja toteuttivat protomallistot, joilla mm. mahdollistettiin vaatekaappiin unohtuneille aarteille uusi elämä tai hyödynnettiin yritysten deadstock-varastoja asusteena tai osana sisustusta. Tavoitteena oli jo olemassa olevan tekstiilimateriaalin pitäminen käytössä mahdollisimman pitkään.
Taste for Waste -näyttelyprojekti toteutettiin osana Painetut tekstiilit ja pinnansuunnittelu -opintoja keväällä 2023. Opintojakson ohjaajina toimivat Metropolia AMK:n lehtorit Tuiti Paju (CAD) ja Tiina Karhu. Näyttelyn koordinoi Tiina Karhu. Näyttely on osa kansainvälistä Forssa Textile Week -tapahtumaa 17.-20.8.2023.

GROUP EXHIBITION "RUUM368" contemporary textile art exhibition 2023
Kirke Kirikall, Caroliina Ladva, Kaia Zupping
Celebrating the creative spirit of young textile artists, this exhibition is a testament to the profound influence of their journeys and experiences abroad. Through their contemporary textile art pieces, these artists unravel narratives of exploration, homesickness, the quest for self-identity, and the intricate tapestry of human relationships.
The inspiration for this exhibition was sparked by the artists' diverse and enlightening experiences while studying abroad. Each unique encounter and cultural immersion left an indelible mark on their creative souls, fueling their artistic expressions.
Intriguingly, 'RUUM368' invites viewers to embark on a visual journey, a portal into the artists' worlds and an exploration of their inner landscapes. It serves as a testament to the universal nature of the human experience, reminding us that our 'inner space' transcends geographical boundaries and remains a constant companion on our life's odyssey.
This extraordinary exhibition, which took place from July 6th to August 6th, 2023, at Kivi Baar in Tartu, stands as a testament to the power of artistic expression and the transformative impact of global exploration.

"Hingeloom" / "Spirit animal"
Through the art of intuitive crocheting, I brought forth the essence of my soul. Each color, texture, and form carries a deeply sentimental significance, weaving together an artistic tapestry that reflects the very core of my being.
My creation, known as "Hingeloom", made its debut at the "Hinge kaartides" ("Mapping Spirit") group exhibition held at Gallery Pallas, Tartu, from December 1st, 2022, to January 7th, 2023.
For this captivating contemporary textile art piece, I employed an array of materials, including wool, found objects, a luminous lightbulb, and wire, blending traditional and unconventional elements.

"Hingekoda" / "Chamber of Spirit"
The "Chamber of Spirit" serves as the sanctuary where our souls find respite after departing our physical bodies. The gentle illumination within this space symbolizes the presence of the spirit, offering a haven for introspection and contemplation of one's past life.
This contemporary art masterpiece emerged from a collaborative effort between myself and the talented Gert Christianson. Conceived during a modern art course, this creation harmoniously combined my artistic vision with the expertise of a fellow student from the furniture department.
The "Chamber of Spirit" found its place in the spotlight at the "Steaming Souls" pop-up exhibition, which took place from December 9th to 10th, 2022, at Ajuokse Avangaar, Tartu.
